Munich, February 25, 2026 – Avelios Medical, provider of an AI-native hospital information system (HIS), receives a strategic investment from SAP – not only to replace SAP's legacy hospital system IS-H, but to define the next generation of healthcare technology together.
As SAP phases out support for IS-H in several markets, healthcare providers must reassess the digital backbone of their medical and administrative operations. For decades, IS-H has served as a core system for patient management, billing, and hospital workflows. Its sunset marks one of the most significant infrastructure transitions in healthcare IT in recent years.
Against this backdrop, SAP's investment in Avelios signals a clear path forward and reinforces the long-term commitment to a joint enterprise healthcare platform, following a successful partnership and comprehensive technical validation.
"With our investment in Avelios, we are creating the technological foundation for an open, sovereign platform for the healthcare industry," says Sebastian Steinhäuser, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE. "Together, we enable hospitals to operate a unified, data-driven infrastructure that supports modern care, more resilient processes, and AI-driven innovation."
Reliability for Hospitals & Operational Strength for International Rollouts
Avelios will invest the capital in its team, product, and delivery capabilities to expand operational capacity and support international enterprise-scale rollouts. As the world's leading provider of enterprise software, SAP provides access to a global ecosystem of implementation partners, technologies, and decades of experience in complex transformation programs — significantly accelerating Avelios' expansion.
"SAP's investment is a strong signal for the future of hospital digitization. Together, we are offering a platform that brings medical excellence and modern technology together. Our vision is hospital IT that reduces workload, unlocks the value of data, and accelerates innovation in care and research. With SAP at our side, we can take this transformation to a new dimension," says Christian Albrecht, co-founder of Avelios Medical.
An Open, AI-Native Platform – Built on Trusted, Secure Data Infrastructure
Avelios and SAP combine complementary strengths: medical process and data architecture on the one hand, and enterprise-level integration on the other. The result is an integrated platform that redefines hospital IT.
As an AI-native hospital information system (HIS), Avelios forms the core medical architecture of the platform. With its structured, semantically consistent data model, Avelios defines the basis for automation and the productive use of AI in everyday medical practice. Building on this foundation, Avelios and SAP develop intelligent solutions that orchestrate medical and business processes across systems – for example, using SAP Joule Agents in material and personnel resource planning.
The joint solution is based on an open platform architecture: cloud-native, modular, and internationally scalable – while clearly anchored in sovereign data management, governance, and compliance. This is not just a new IT solution, but a structural shift in digital healthcare infrastructure – backed by European technology and enterprise expertise that unites medical quality, economic efficiency, and technological innovation.
