Munich / Heilbronn, October 28, 2026 – Avelios Medical and Schwarz Digits, the IT and digital division of Schwarz Group, today announced a strategic partnership. By combining state-of-the-art cloud sovereignty with an interoperable, AI-native hospital information system (HIS), the partners are setting a new standard for the secure modernization of European healthcare.

Cloud as a catalyst for modern hospital IT and AI

Hospitals are facing a fundamental technological transformation. Existing IT landscapes need to be modernized, hospital processes transformed, and, at the same time, the foundations need to be established for the productive use of artificial intelligence.

Cloud infrastructure is a key technological catalyst for this transformation: it accelerates application development, enables flexible scalability, and reduces the operational burden of hospital IT. At the same time, it provides the computing power required to integrate modern AI applications directly into clinical workflows.

In healthcare in particular, however, moving to the cloud requires the highest standards of data protection, information security, and digital sovereignty. This is precisely where the partnership between Avelios and Schwarz Digits comes in.

An AI- and cloud-native HIS on sovereign infrastructure

Avelios contributes the clinical core architecture through its modular, cloud-native hospital information system (HIS). Designed from the ground up for the use of AI, its fully structured and semantically annotated data model makes clinical information directly available for automation, decision support, and AI applications. As the first provider of a fully cloud-native HIS, Avelios has also obtained BSI C5 Type 2 attestation across its entire product portfolio.

STACKIT, the sovereign cloud from Schwarz Digits, provides the underlying European sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure. The infrastructure is BSI C5 attested and consistently designed to meet the requirements of the GDPR and for operation in critical infrastructure environments, without access by third countries under legislation such as the U.S. CLOUD Act.

“Our partnership goes far beyond a technical integration. We are bringing together modern HIS processes, secure databases for healthcare data, and uncompromisingly sovereign cloud infrastructure to create a secure end-to-end value chain for the regulated healthcare market. This gives IT leaders full control over their data and legal certainty, helps hospital management address the pressures of transformation, and at the same time enables medical and nursing staff to focus on what matters most,” said Bernie Wagner, Chief Revenue Officer at Schwarz Digits.

Sovereignty from the bedside to the data center

Together, Avelios and Schwarz Digits are creating an end-to-end European technology platform that modernizes day-to-day clinical operations while enabling AI models and applications to be integrated seamlessly, securely, and at scale into healthcare delivery. Avelios’ AI-native hospital information system (HIS) can be operated on STACKIT, the sovereign cloud from Schwarz Digits.

“The future of hospital IT is not a choice between cloud and sovereignty. We need both,” said Christian Albrecht, Co-Founder and CEO of Avelios Medical. “Hospitals need to fundamentally modernize their IT today while simultaneously creating the foundations to bring AI safely and productively into healthcare delivery. Together with Schwarz Digits, we are creating an end-to-end European technology platform for exactly that purpose: from clinical workflows and structured data to sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure.”

First joint projects already underway

The partnership is already being put into practice: among others, Sana Kliniken will deploy the joint solution from Avelios and STACKIT. This will bring sovereign cloud infrastructure to one of Germany’s largest private hospital networks.

In January 2027, Avelios and Schwarz Digits will also invite interested hospitals to an exclusive Health Industry Roundtable. The partners will provide insights into the joint solution and discuss with healthcare decision-makers how hospitals can transition their IT to a modern, AI-ready, and sovereign infrastructure.
